3D-Printing at the 2014 Culture Shock Art Festival

The AML has been sharing the beauty and challenges that engineers are faced with every day.  Attending art and culture expositions provides opportunities to share with diverse audiences how creativity and artistry are necessary tools in the engineering tool-kit.  The following link is a segment broadcast over SDPB radio where AML staff shared views on STEAM Ed.

“Innovation and creativity is America’s global competitive advantage. There is little doubt STEM education and STEM skills are an essential part of this country’s long term competitive edge, but STEM is missing a key set of creativity-related components that are equally critical to fostering a competitive and innovative workforce, and those skills are summarized under the letter 'A' for Arts as the foundation for 'divergent thinking.'”  -The STE+AM Manifesto, 2010-2012  STE+AM Manifesto

Two 3D printers were used along with a 3D scanner to print busts of festival attendees.

Festival attendees had the opportunity to experiment with 3Doodlers.

An artistic Voronoi vase was CAD and printed on-site.
